Market of produce

Posted by Anonymous at February 16. 2017
I am working on a test model to allow farmers in remote areas to market their yield post harvest. creating a link between them and buyers in the urban areas.(I dont intend to provide logistics support. it would be handle by outsourcing it) My challenges 1. how do i prevent leakage(where buyers locate a farmer with my platform and thereafter deals with the farmer directly.) 2. How do i get buyers to trade on my platform rather than dealing with the farmers directly(in this way, the farmers get cheated).

Dear Sir,
Greetings For The Day!!!

As per your request kindly note that you have to collect datas about farmers and wholesale buyers and have to integrate them in your portal. This is the only way how you can connect the buyers and the farmers.

Warm Regards

dear sir, all these efforts are being done to bypass wholesale guys and connect farmers directly with the end user. if we (farmers) would like to meet wholesalers we can go to a mandi!!

I agree with paarv kapoor, the whole point of marketing is to connect farmers directly with end users by bypassing wholesalers. There are lot of platforms like websites, forums and apps who are taking efforts to make ends meet.

Agricultural marketing is the main reason for moving an agricultural product from the farm to the consumer. It is also the planning, organizing, directing and handling of agricultural produce in such a way as to satisfy the farmer, producer and the consumer. Numerous interconnected activities are involved in doing this, such as planning production, growing and harvesting, grading, packing and packaging, transport, storage, agro- and food processing, distribution, advertising and sale. Effectively, the term encompasses the entire range of supply chain operations. However, it's key function is to help direct these services, by providing competent and able market information, thereby linking the other operations into an integrated service with targeted outcomes.

In old model farmers made only small profit as compared to wholesalers' profit margin. Because it was the only option, farmers didn't have the power to change the system. But with internet's ability to connect directly with retailers who want product, farmers can take profit for them self.

STEPS INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURE MARKETING

1. BUSINESS PLANNING

Business planning is a strategic move which involves defining the goal, analyzing the market, deciding on cost and profit margin. As paarv kapoor said we go to mandi to meet wholesalers. We can even go there to check out the market trend and price or take a second option to check online. Later would be convenient as it saves your time and transport cost.

2. ASSEMBLY AND PACKING

A package provides protection, tampering resistance, and special physical, chemical, or biological needs. It may bear a nutrition facts label and other information about food being offered for sale.

3. TRANSPORT

Transport or logistics involves a lot of effort and human labor. At most care has to be taken while transporting.

4. DISTRIBUTION AND RETAILING

This is the final step to reach retailers. Note that chain retail stores sometimes have their own separate warehouse distribution centers.

5. EVALUATE AND REPLAN

This is the very important step. Here we evaluate our old plan, identify faults and negatives and replan.

But this is a time taking procedure and involves efforts. So its upto you to decide whether to reach out wholesalers or not.
