Places to visit in Adilabad District

Adilabad district is bounded on north by Yeotmal and Chanda districts of Maharashtra, on the east by Chanda district, on the south by Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts and on the west by Nanded district of Maharashtra State. The district has a population of 20,79,098 which accounts for 3.13% of the total population of the state. It ranks fifth rank in terms of area with an extent of 16128 sqkms.

The district derives its name from the town of Adilabad, named after the ruler of Bijapur, Ali Adil Shah. The district was ruled at different periods by dynasties namely the Mauryas, Satavahanas, Vakatakas, Chalukyas of Badami, Rashtrakutas, Chalukyas of Kalyani, Mughals, Bhosle Rajas of Nagpur and AsafJahis, besides the Gond Rajas of Sirpur and Chanda.

The climate of the district is characterized by hot summer and is generally dry except during the south-west monsoon season. The Sahyadri or Satnala range traverses the district from the north-west to the south-east. In this range, the Mahbubghat is the highest peak. The most important river that drains the district is the river Godavari. The Penganga, Wardha, and Pranahita are other key rivers. The district is known for historic temples and nature hotspots, and several exotic waterfalls. The salubrious climate attracts tourists from all over.

Kadile Papahareshwar

Kadile is a village located is Adilabad district of Telangana. In order to reach Kadile you have to travel 210 kms from Hyderabad to reach Nirmal city from and from Nirmal, you will have to take a bus to travel on the Bhainsa route. After travelling some distance, you can see the Satmala hills from the windows, and after moving further and crossing few villages amidst the hills, you will reach Kadile which in the center of pleasant nature in a small valley.

In Kadile, there is a stream that emerges from high hills and flows in to the beautiful valley towards north. The stream passes by the Kadile Papahareshwara temple. On the either side of this fresh stream, we can see huge trees of about 50 metrs height. The government has built a dam in the northeast of the Kadile temple. The well known temple of Kadile Papahareshwara has entrances on three sides excluding the east. One can see the statues of Shringi and Bhringi on either sides of the entrance on the north. While doing the pradakshanas around the temple, we can see idols of Gajanan, Brahma, Varaha, Uma Maheswari, and Vishnu. On the north-east side of the Kadile Papahareshwars temple, is a temple of Lord Annapurna.

There is an idol of Nandi in front of Kadile Papahareshwara temple. According to a legend, the devotees can hear 'Om Namahshivaya' if they place a ear against Nandi's ear. The Shiva Lingam in this temple has a special significance. It is believed that the Shiva Lingam slightly swings. According to the legend, Bhargava Rama killed his mother on his father order. And to wash off his sin, he installs thirty one Shiva Lingas in other places and installs the thirty second Linga here, and when the Lingam moved, Bhargava assumed that all his sins are removed.

Jainath Temple

There are many temples located in rural regions of South India which are gaining popularity these days in the tourism circuit. One such temple is located in Adilabad districts of Telangana, called Jainath Temple.

It is located in Jainath, a small rural hamlet situated 30 kilometers from the district headquarters of Adilabad. The temple has a prakrit stone inscription depicting the 20 slokas which establishes that it was constructed by the Pallava chief. The temple boasts of impressive features resembling the Jain style of temple architecture. The village gets the name from the famous temple which is an abode of Lord Lakshmi Narayana Swami. Every year from October-November Laxmi Narayana Swami Bhramotsavalu is held from Karthika Sudda Astami to Bahula Saptami attracting a large number of devotees. The Pallava kings were believed to have accorded royal patronage for this village. The temple's historical signifance is gauged from the different verses and inscriptions on rocks. Adilabad town is situated at a distance of 320 Kms which takes six hours by road from Hyderabad, from where it takes another 21 Kms and another thirty minutes of travel to reach Jainath temple. Since it is a village there is no accommodation available, but one can find decent hotels for stay in Adilabad.

Architecture wise it is a small temple which is located on a platform which is two feet high. The Lord's idol in the sanctum sanctorum is six-feet tall and is made entirely of black stone. The temple and the surroundings are getting a face lift with tourism development activities undertaken by the state government to connect it with other places of interest in Adilabad district and North Telangana.

Kalwa Narsimha Swamy Temple

The Kalwa Narsimha Swamy is a holy shrine located in the city of Koneru, which is at a distance of 11 km from Nirmal. Devotees who embark on a trip to the famous Basar Saraswati Temple, often stop by this temple, which falls on the way, to offer prayers.

Lord Narsimha, also known as Narsingh, Narasingh, Narasimha Swamy and Narasingha, is an incarnation of the great Lord Vishnu. Narasimha Swamy is revered as the Protector by devotees all over India. There are a lot of temples across the country that are dedicated to the worship of God Narsimha Swamy. The Telangana region host scores of temples scattered all over the place dedicated to Lord Narsimha Swamy in different avatars. One such temple is the Kalwa Narsimha Swamy Temple in Adilabad District. The temple authorities also organize 'Vana Bhojanam' as part of their many rituals. On this occasion the authorities serve the devotees meals beneath the lush green trees. This is a very popular ritual and many people visiting the temple participate in this ritual. Moreover, the dedication and the excitement of the people turns this event into a family picnic, especially children are seem enjoying this ritual to the fullest.

At Kalwa Narsimha Swamy, we can see the deity seated in a yogic posture. To his side, we see Narsimha Swamy's consort Goddess Lakshmi. This is a rare form of the God, as we see that most of the other temples usually house the more furious avatar of Narsimha Swamy. We can also see a Ratham or the holy chariot in the temple premises. The Ratham is decorated with different types of colourful flowers on special occasions and it carries the idols of gods and goddesses. The area around the temple is made tourist friendly.
