National Institutional Ranking Framework

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has been launched by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India on 29th September, 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions.

Frequency of ranking

As decided by the Ministry of HRD, Ranking of institutions of Higher Education will be an annual exercise. Ranks will be declared on the 1st Monday of April every year.

Ranking of institutions 2017

India Rankings 2017 is the second edition of ranking of higher educational institutions in the country based on objective, identifiable parameters. The rankings are arrived at after detailed analysis and validation of the data submitted by 2995 higher educational institutions in the country classified in 5 categories. This includes 232 Universities, 1024 Engineering Institutions, 546 Management Institutions, 318 Pharmacy Institutions and 637 General Degree Colleges, and others. Many of these have participated in multiple disciplines, adding to a total of 3319 participants across disciplines.

India Rankings 2017” have ranked institutions in the disciplines/categories mentioned above, and have also provided a common overall rank across all disciplines for those institutes which either have more than 1000 enrolled students, or which are centrally funded.
