The Bureau of Energy Efficiency initiated the Standards & Labeling programme for equipment and appliances in 2006 to provide the consumer an informed choice about the energy saving and thereby the cost saving potential of the relevant marketed product. The energy efficiency labeling programs under BEE are intended to reduce the energy consumption of appliance without diminishing the services it provides to consumers.

The list of Mandatory items has been increased to 10 as per the MoP website. A better way to word the sentence would be to have a "As on 22nd May , 2018 ,. 10 gadgets are under mandatory labelling" "

Sub:-Washing machines to validate efficacy of recommended Washing cycles
Washing machines --Automatic or semi-auto-- come with a booklet which recommend certain cycle(s) for washing clothes. These are often exaggerated. For example, if washing of certain set of clothes can be achieved in say 30 minutes, these machine manufacturers would suggest 45 minutes. Similarly the semi-auto machines come with large timers of say 30 minutes when recommended setting is only 5-10 minutes. The housewife by intuition & human nature sets the timer at 15 minutes.
A)The design of semi-autos and B) the revision to recommended cycles of automatic washing machines
can result in 33% saving of electricity and water.
