Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) - overview PMSBY is an Accident Insurance Scheme offering accidental death and disability cover for death or disability on account of an accident. It is a one-year cover, renewable from year to year. The scheme is offered / administered through Public sector general insurance companies and other General insurance companies willing to offer the product on similar terms with necessary approvals and tie ups with Banks / Post office for this purpose. Participating banks/ Post office are free to engage any such general insurance company for implementing the scheme for their subscribers. Eligibility All individual account holders of participating banks/ Post office in the age group of 18 to 70 years are entitled to join. In case of multiple bank / Post office accounts held by an individual in one or different banks/ Post office, the person is eligible to join the scheme through one bank/Post office account only. How to apply The schemes are linked closely to KYC verified bank accounts. There are two methods of enrollment into the schemes. For online application, visit https://jansuraksha.in/login. Once an individual inputs the basic details of the bank account, the requisite data is automatically fetched from the Banks through secure integration. All basic documentation needs to be updated at the bank. In case of a bank assisted journey, the customer has to submit a duly filled in consent-cum-declaration form for enrollments to his bank/post office branch alongwith the required documents. The PMSBY Application Form Premium and payment mode Rs. 20/- per annum per member. However the premium may be revised based on annual claims experience. The premium will be deducted from the account holder's bank / Post office account through 'auto debit facility in one instalment, as per the option given, at the time of enrolment under the scheme. However, in cases where auto debit takes place after 1st June, the cover shall commence from the date of auto debit of premium by Bank/ Post office. Benefits Rs. 2 lakh is payable on member's death due to accident. Rs. 2 lakh is payable for Total and irrecoverable loss of both eyes or loss of use of both hands or feet or loss of sight of one eye and loss of use of hand or foot.
