Gogabil Lake

Gogabil lake of Katihar district is one of the largest wetlands of Bihar. Area of the lake is about 217 acres and its extent is 5 km by 1 km.

In the past, the lake was directly linked to the Ganga and Mahananda. During the peak rainy season and floods, the lake communicates to these rivers through channels and tributaries. The place is a virgin area suitable to serve as sanctuary for many varieties of terrestrial and aquatic animals, birds and plants. Nearly 300 migratory birds come to the lake and its vicinity during monsoon and winter from the Caspian Sea and Siberian region. 

During August 2019, the lake was declared as the state’s first ‘Community Reserve’. The water body was notified as a 57 hectare Community Reserve and a 30 hectare ‘Conservation Reserve’ by the state government. 

Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Historical Gurudwara

This historical Gurudwara is situated at Lakshmipur Panchayat of Barari Block of Katihar District. It is about 40km from District Headquarters. The Ninth Guru, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib had stayed here (earlier location Kant Nagar) on his way back from Assam to Patna in 1670 AD. The people of the village became his followers and accepted the Sikh Faith. Many people visit this village as it is associated with Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. One can visit here to see old scripts and ancient documents of relegious importance. An old volume of Guru Granth Sahib is also preserved here.
