The second largest bird sanctuary after Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary is bird sanctuary and wetland near Bonal village in the Shorapur taluk of Yadgir district. At least 21 species of birds visit the tank which is situated in a rural environment surrounded by rocky hillocks and irrigation rich agricultural fields.The migratory birds which frequent the sanctuary included purple heron, white-necked stork, white ibis, black ibis, brahminy duck, bar-headed goose, Indian shag, snake bird, purple moorhen, Indian moorhen, large egret, pond heron, and cattle egret. The Bonal tank was built by the Surpur king Raja Pam Naik in the 17th Century
700 acres big pond. about 10,000 species of foreign migratory birds come here, it’s a second biggest bird sanctuary in Karnataka. earlier it was picnic spot for the British.
Wagangera fort is situated on Shorapur hill range. In fact Wagangera was a power center in the pre-Nizam times. During Nizam rule, administration was shifted to Surpur. Present day Wagangera village is nestled between a large hill and a hillock. The main fort is on the large hill and the hillock also has fortifications which would have little more than a watch tower. The fort is from the period of Surapur Nayakas A.D 1806. It got its name Vandurga owing to it being surrounded by forest. The large gateways of the fort have high semi-circular Vanadurga originally the name tells us Vana + durga = Forest + Fort fort its was said that the fort was lying in between the thick forest. As now there is no forest but only a heap of agricultural fields, lies in the vanadurga village in Shahpur taluk of Yadgiri district.
Sleeping Buddha hill, made up of four hills look like “Sleeping Buddha”. This is nature’s gift and popular attraction of Shahapur. Located on the bank of Mavina Kere (Pond) at Shahapur- Kalburgi Road.
British officer Philip Meadows Taylor in 1840 builds a huge well known techniques Bungalow of its construction, there are four rooms many as 27 doors!!. When any door of the building is closed or opened all the doors begin to shake.
Is a place of historical importance. located 12 km from Shahapur. Gogi popularly known for Chanda Hussaini Dargha. Mir Taj-ud-din built a beautiful palace in 1551 here. The Inscription on the doorway of the Chanda Hussaini Dargha mentions the construction in 1604 by Mutavali Shaikh Miyan.During the Adil Shahi rule it was famous as Gogi-Mahal in the compound of Chanda Hussaini Dargha is found beautiful mosque called Kali Masjid built in period of Adil Shahi in 1745.
Basavasagar Dam situated 22 km from Surapur. Dam constructed on river Krishna. It’s boon to Yadagiri and neighbour districts. It is a lovely place, enjoyed by tourists. The Dam is about half km. Even in the summer the cool breeze floating across the reservoir.
Yevur located 32 km north-east of Surapur. In 11-12th centuries Kalyana Chalukya’s 22 and two of Kalachuris inscription are reported here Yevur had attained an important status as educational, religious and cultural centre. Tourists enjoy eye catching architectures, pillar inscriptions, carvings, intricate stones sculptures found in the multi planned architectures Jain Basadi, Someshwara-Sangameshwar temples complex, Bhavi basavanna temples, Hanumantha temple etc.
