An attempt to discover and document stories of people, events, and places linked to the freedom struggle of India at the micro level of the district has led to the creation of a Digital District Repository. Konda Laxmanji was born on 27 September, 1915 at Wankdi, Asifabad taluk of old Adilabad District. He settled in Hyderabad. He passed Matriculation and Pleader’s Examination and enrolled himself at the Bar in Hyderabad in 1941. He was the prominent Congressman who participated in the “Vande Mataram Movement of 1938”, in Hyderabad State and suffered imprisonment. He conducted satyagraha and demonstrations in Hyderabad city during the Quit India Movement. His house was searched by the Nizam’s police as he took a leading part in the “Join Indian Union Movement” during 1947-48. He escaped when the Nizam’s armed police cordoned off his residence in Hyderabad in 26 July 1947 to arrest him for organizing revolutionary activities. He was termed as one of the ‘absconded accused’ in the case of throwing a hand-grenade on Nizam-VII by Narayan Rao Pawaron 4 December 1947 in Hyderabad as a protest against his autocratic rule. The Nizam government issued an arrest warrant against him.
He was the president of Nizam Rashtra Padmashali Mahasabha. In the year 1945, he founded the Weavers’ Welfare Trust at Hyderabad. In 1949 he was appointed as Secretary, Andhra Provincial Congress Committee. He also played an active role in 1969-1971, Jai Telangana Movement, and in the second phase of separate Telangana Movement (2001-2012). He was known as the man of great values and ethics.
