Places to visit in RangaReddy District

Ranga Reddy district is a district in Telangana, with its district headquarters located at Hyderabad. This district was named after the former Deputy CM of the United Andhra Pradesh, Konda Venkata Ranga Reddy, a freedom fighter had fought for Telangana’s independence from the Nizams.

It was formed in the year 1978, by splitting Hyderabad district. In the year 2016, it was further altered during the districts re-organisation for creating Vikarabad and Medchal−Malkajgiri district. Ranga Reddy District occupies an area of approximately 7,500 square kilometres (2,900 sq mi) and according to the 2011 census, it has a population of 2,446,265.

Ramoji Film City

The Ramoji Film City, situated in the Rangareddy District, is a film studio complex, equipped with comprehensive facilities for filmmaking,that attracts a large number of producers towards it. Guided tours of the complex are provided for visitors. It also comprises an area that hosts reconstructions from the Mauryan era.

Osmansagar Dam

The Osmansagar Dam is one of the biggest dams in the state. This dam was constructed across River Musi, in 1920. This dam is a popular site due to its surrounding gardens and placid expanse of water.

Maheshwaram

Maheshwaram is a popular pilgrimage centre situated in the Rangareddy District. The main attraction of the place is the ruins of an ancient Shiva temple. Apart from this temple, the place also comprises two fortresses namely Shiva Ganga and Vishnu Ganga, along with a Kacheri House of Akkanna and Madanna and four ministers of the Bhaktha Ramdas era; as well as the Kodanda Ramalayam and the Shivaji Durgam. Every edifice present at this place can be dated back to more than 500 years. The smaller temples of Maheshwaram are known for their exquisite sculptures and detailed carvings

Chilkur

The Village of Chilkur is a small village situated in the premises of Himayath Sagar Lake of Rangareddy District. This village is not only a scenic spot, but is also a religious site due to the presence of a large Balaji temple at the place. Situated close to the Sagar Lake, the temple is an ancient one and is dedicated to Lord Balaji. Chilkur is also home to a National Deer Park, which was established with the purpose of protecting and nurturing the fauna of this region.

Durgam Cheruvu

Durgam Cheruvu is another significant lake of the Rangareddy District. This lake is the most unspoilt and the quietest one in the region. Its surroundings include unique rock mounds, whose presence here marks the boundaries of the plateau of this lake. The Cheruvu or the lake is also a popular weekend getaway for the urban population. Boat rides, video games and food stalls are other options for spending time here

Ocean Park

Ocean Park is an amusement and water theme park, located in the centre of the plateau of Rangareddy District. This water park offers activities like sliding, rafting and carousels in the wave pool. It is spread over 20 acres of landscaped gardens and is a popular weekend gateway for the urban population, being situated just 15 km away from the state capital of Hyderabad.

Himayath Sagar

The Himayath Sagar is a picturesque picnic spot situated at 24 km distance, from the city of Hyderabad. The word sagar associated with this lake means ocean in Sanskrit and describes well, the massive expanse of water in it. The water of this lake is also placid and unpolluted due to which it largely serves the purpose of drinking water for the twin cities of Andhra Pradesh.

Sri Ananta Padmanabha Swamy Sculpture

The idol of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Sculpture in is carved in black granite stone measuring (2.20mts x1.00 mts). The figure of Anantha Padrnanabha Devarampally Village, is carved on a boulder here. A 32 hooded snake is also beautifully carved behind him. The upper right hand is kept below As head and the lower right hand is kept near his chest. The upper left hand is holding Sankha while the lower left hand is kept on the folded left leg. Sri Brahma is seen seated on a lotus which is raised from the navel of Anantha Padmanabha. His consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi are carved near his feet portion. Above the in deity, Sankha, Chakra and devotees images are also carved. On the basis of the iconographical features, this sculpture dates backto 12th -13th Century A.D.

Sri Vendikonda Siddheswara Swamy Temple

Sri Vendikonda Siddeswara Swamy temple is located on the terrace of a hill and is dedicated to Lord Siva. There are two subsidiary shrines namely Ammavari temple and Bhavani Matha temple which are connected by a mahamandapa supported by 32 pillars.

In the temple complex, there are also other temples dedicated to Vinayaka, Anjaneya and Siva located on either side of the complex. There is a step well called “Gundam” with perennial water. In front of the gundam (water tank) a Sivalinga and Nandi dating back to the 7th century CE are installed. There are two pillars inside the mahamandapa in typical Rastrakuta style datable to the 9th century CE.

Inside Siva temple and Ammavari temple, Sivalinga and Parvati datable to the 10th Century CE are installed. The Kalyana mandapam and Anjaneya Swamy temple located on the left side of the complex are datable to the Kakatiya period. The Ganesha image in the Vinayaka temple is in seated posture and is in typical Kakatiya style.
