National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous society under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India has developed a Nationwide network of Science Museums/Centres for development of science exhibits and demonstration aids.
NCSM has 25 Science centres under its administration across the country.
The objective of the National Science Centre is to engage, educate and entertain the visitor through thematic exhibitions, interactive educational activities and outreach programmes. In order to popularize science and technology for the benefits of students and for the common man, these Science Centres in addition to the static exhibition galleries, organize many mobile museum travelling exhibitions, seminars, popular lectures, science camps, science fairs, training programmes etc., for teachers, students, housewives and others as well as “out-of-school educational activities” apart from administering the Science Centres.
NCSM has developed its own Nationwide network of 25 Science Museums/Centres. The centres are divided into North, South, East, North East and West Zones.
National Level Centres
There are 6 National Level Centres namely
Central Research & Training Laboratory (CRTL) based at Kolkata is the Council’s central hub for professional training, research and development.
Except Science City, Kolkata other National Level centres have Regional and Sub-Regional/District Level centres under its control and are called Satellite Units (SUs).
