Using Indian languages on computers are very attractive for a layman. Quillpad & lipikaar is a free online typing tool in Indian languages. It supports translit eration technologies according to pre-defined rules. A translit eration technology is one that allows users to type words as they would casually do (like 'rashtrbhasha' instead of 'rAShTrbhAShA) such as rigid case-sensit ive typing rules. Translit eration tools expect users to type English words phonetically. This allows users to communicate in their own regional language of their choice. Technology Development for Indian Languages (TDIL) Programme init iated by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEIT ), Govt. India has the objective to develop information processing tools to facilit ate human machine interaction in Indian languages and to develop technologies to access multilingual knowledge resources. The fonts are being made available free for public through language CDs and web downloads for the benefit of masses. Click on the selected language for download fonts.

Padma Plugin

Padma is a technology for transforming Indic text between public and proprietary formats. The technology currently supports Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, Devanagari (including Marathi), Gujarati, Bengali, and Gurmukhi.

Padma's goal is to bridge the gap between closed and open standards until the day Unicode support is widely available on all platforms. Padma transforms Indic text encoded in proprietary formats (ex: dynamic fonts) automatically to Unicode. Padma also has support for transforming from ISCII and translit eration schemes like IT RANS and RTS (Telugu only). For download the plugin click here.
