Karnataka

The Department of Public Instruction, Government of Karnataka has proactively taken upon the task of ensuring that children are engaged in learning activity and also established a structured process to continue the same even after the start of the Academic Year. Significant efforts were made by the Department to ensure the integration of digital learning with classroom teaching effectively by following the inclusive approach with consultation of all the stakeholders – Teachers, Parents, Students, School Administrators, SDMCs, and Educationalists etc.

Makkalavani

During the Covid 19 lockdown period, to keep the children engaged in cognitively useful activities, the department of Public Instructions started an innovative Edutainment Channel in Youtube “MakkalaVani’’ Naliyona Kaliyona’. The program telecasts daily Edutainment programs consisting of stories, songs, crafts, plays, riddles, proverbs and magic shows, science experiments etc., among other things. The program contents were collected through crowdsourcing mode from teachers, students, educationalists, artists and curated and presented as part of the program. The viewership crossed million within a short span of the launch of the program. The response to the program was amazing and the Department plans to continue the channel in future, during holidays also.

Pariksha Vani

Due to Lockdown instruction for COVID -19, schools were closed before completion of the Board Examinations across Karnataka. The department initiated the Exam preparation program aired through Doordarshan “Chandana” channel for Hr 1.30 Minutes on daily basis, which is repeated during the non peak hours. These exam preparation modules were initially started for Kannada medium students, subsequently based on the demand from students, parents extended to other mediums like English. All the subjects English, Hindi, Kannada, Urdu, Mathematics, Science, Social and Sanskrit were covered through this program. These programs were also uploaded on YouTube.

Recorded / Live Classes through Television

As the uncertainty over bringing normalcy in functioning of the schools is still continuing due to Covid-19, the department of Public Instructions planned for alternative digital modes. Based on survey conducted, it was found that around 95% of the households have Television. With the success of “Parikshavani”, the department plans to telecast regular classroom instruction through Television. These programs will start shortly.

ETB (Energized Textbooks)

The Department of Public Instructions, Government of Karnataka had already taken up 39 titles on pilot basis under Energized Text Books, with QR Code tagged content on DIKSHA Portal. This year, the ETBs were extended to all the remaining titles from Class 4 to Class 10 and necessary Digital Content has been provided. The material thus prepared in terms of Videos, Assessments, reference material will supplement the regular classroom teaching. There is a tremendous increase in the usage of these contents during the Lockdown period.
