Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute situated in Jakkur, a locality north of Bangalore, India. JNCASR promotes world-class scientific research and training at the frontiers of science and engineering.
JNCASR was established in 1989 to mark the birth centenary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is relatively young yet well-known around the Globe. The mandate of JNCASR is to pursue and promote world-class research and training at the frontiers of Science and Engineering covering broad areas ranging from Materials to Genetics. The Centre is an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India and a deemed to be university.
This is one of the highly acclaimed programmes of the Centre and the students are very appreciative of the benefits, enabling them to get inspired towards scientific research during the early stage of their education. The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 continuous months with a monthly stipend.
Minimum Academic Requirements
Students who have secured not less than 80% in Maths and Science subjects in their X and XII standard or equivalent examinations, and not less than first class in graduation and post-graduation (if applicable). Students presently pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate degree can apply. The following table depicts the minimum academic requirement for SRFP:

As part of its Science Outreach Programme, JNCASR conducts a Project Oriented Chemistry Education (POCE) programme for students presently studying in the 1st year of 3 year B.Sc. programme only (preferably with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) combination) to explore their academic potential, stimulate a deeper interest in science and infuse creativity and scientific temper amongst undergraduate students. Selected students will be given an opportunity to attend lectures, participate in laboratory projects and research. The programme will be conducted during the summer vacation for a period of 6 to 8 weeks over 3 consecutive summers.
Selected students are expected to commit to the programme for 3 years and successful candidates will receive a Diploma in Chemistry from the Centre. Specialization in advanced materials will be possible during the last year. Those who complete the POCE programme with outstanding performance will be eligible for admission to the MS-PhD programme in the Centre subject to satisfactory performance in the interview.

The Centre offers Visiting Scientist Fellowships to research scientists in educational institutions and R&D laboratories, to work with the faculty and honorary faculty of the Centre. Through this programme, many young researchers are able to hone their skills or develop research laboratory in their parent establishment after undergoing training and research in the Centre.
The Centre organizes workshops for teachers and students of schools for popularizing science. The Centre, through Educational Technology Unit, is actively involved in the concept, production and development of multimedia CD-ROMs especially for school students and teachers in various disciplines of science. The content has also been developed in vernacular languages to science popularization programs in various parts of the country.
