Danger signs during the course of a pregnancy
Ante-Natal Period
- Anemia: Palpitations, easy fatigability, breathlessness at rest
- Excessive nausea and vomiting
- High fever
- Headache / Blurring of Vision / Dizziness
- Convulsion / Fits
- Swelling all over the body
- Pain / Burning while urinating
- Increased frequency of urination
- Foul smelling discharge with or without fever
- High blood pressure
- Leaking for more than 24 hours without labour pain
- Bleeding from vagina or abnormal discharge
- Loss of Fetal Movements
Intra-Natal Period
- Bursting of water bag without labor pains
- Bleeding from vagina
- Convulsions / Fits
- Labour pain for more than 12 hours
- Retained Placenta
Post-Natal Period
- Excessive bleeding i.e. soaking more than 2–3 pads in 20–30 minutes after delivery.
- Convulsions with or without swelling of face and hands, severe headache and blurring of vision
- Fever
- Severe abdominal pain
- Difficulty in breathing and breastfeeding
- Foul-smelling lochia
- Breast engorgement, cracked nipple
- Perineal swelling and infection
- Inability to pass urine or burning while urination
- Post-partum mood changes
