Narayanpet is a town, 70 Kilometers away from Mahbubnagar in Telangana. The origin of Narayanpet Saree can be traced back to the period around 1630 AD. This was the time when the Narayanpet region was under the rule of Maratha king, ChattrapatiShivaji Maharaj. It is said that when the king travelled to the Narayanpet region, he camped there for a while and when he continued on his journey, a few weavers stayed behind. These weavers used to produce saree with a distinct style of design which came to be known as Narayanpet sarees. It is they who brought in a lot of Maharashtrian influence seen in these sarees.
This saree is a fine count cotton saree normally woven with 60s-80s yarn both in warp and weft. It has small extra warp geometrical design in the border with Zari/Art silk.
These sarees are woven in fly shuttle pit loom fitted with lattice dobby. Hank Sizing method is followed to size the yarn. Sectional warping machine is used to prepare long warp upto 300 mts length.
