World Accreditation Day

World Accreditation Day (WAD) is a global initiative established by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF), celebrated on 9th June every year to raise awareness on the importance of accreditation amongst all relevant stakeholders.

Accreditation has been a key pillar of societal assurance for decades, and now underpins trust in almost every aspect of everyday life. Accredited conformity assessment can enable the development and adoption of new technologies, particularly in industries and supply chains where precision, safety and quality are critical. It can support cybersecurity and privacy in an increasingly connected world. As sustainability remains a major concern, accreditation can help consumers and businesses make informed decisions.

Accredition agencies in India

Both National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) constitute the accreditation infrastructure in India and are signatories to the Multilateral Recognition Arrangements of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). NABL has over 8000 accredited labs and NABCB has over 260 accredited CABs (Conformity Assessment Bodies).

The Quality Council of India, established in 1997 by the Government of India and the Indian industry, is the apex organisation in India responsible for establishing and operating the third-party national accreditation system, improving quality across sectors and advising the government and other stakeholders on all matters concerning quality.

Theme for 2024

This year’s theme, Accreditation: Empowering Tomorrow and Shaping the Future focuses on how accreditation can help shape various aspects of life in our changing world. It examines the impact of accreditation as digitalization, new technologies and sustainability concerns continue to change our world.
